Your Quick “How To” Makeover, Straight from your Pantry
Pre-Spring Makeover, Inside and Out
It takes 21 days for a new habit to form and that is more-or-less the amount of days we have left before spring day. If you were like me, not as motivated to do something about your health and appearance during the cold winter months, don’t fret, there is still time. And if the “damage” is too excessive, these 21 days will be enough to motivate us for a complete health and beauty makeover this summer. After all, it is more than 3 months till the year end summer holiday, the same amount of time needed for a new habit to be fixed completely and to replace all the bad ones. It is never too late or too early to start taking care of ourselves. Now see?!
This is not intended as medical treatment in any way, I would merely like to share with you what works for me. Mother Nature is the very best doctor or chemist there is. But please, you don’t have to believe my fun and sometimes wacky remedies and methods. Do your own (legitimate) research, it’s great fun and extremely informative. Remember, there are many foods, herbs and spices interacting with chronic medications, should be used in specific amounts or which might not agree with everyone. Some specifically need to be taken in accordance with others for better benefit. Make sure you find the correct information and methods for you.
PANTRY Health and Beauty
The internet (especially Pinterest and StumbleUpon, of course) is swarming with various articles about how to use the ingredients in our own pantries as health and beauty products. Here are only a few:
Ginger – Anti-microbial, anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, detoxification, alkalising, anti-arthritic, anti-depressant, anti flu, rich in zinc, etc.
Turmeric – Almost all of the above and more! This golden spice is worth it’s weight in gold and there are various delicious ways to incorporate it into our diet. It needs to be taken with black pepper and/or coconut oil though, to be absorbed easier.
Lemon (use the peels and juice) – It is vitamin loaded and has numerous health properties, many of the above.
Cayenne – This miracle spice aids in heart, blood and -vessel health, cholesterol, anti-cancer, metabolism, haemorrhoids, scarring, etc.
Cumin – Vitamin and mineral enriched supporting our metabolism, immune and nervous systems, digestion, etc.
Coconut oil – This is the new buzz on the health and beauty scene which aids many a benefit.
Don’t Waste Your WAIST SYSTEMS
You are what you eat, right? That statement is the absolute truth, but even more importantly is that we are what we absorb through digestion. Every single healthy food or supplement we consume will mean absolutely nothing if those nutrients aren’t properly absorbed in our body. The root of all evil will foremost be found in the colon, but our kidneys and urinary systems and liver needs our special care too. Cleansing these should be the first step to a health and beauty makeover.
I’m on FIRE
This doesn’t have anything to do with the Bruce Springsteen song by the same name (now it’s stuck in my head!) or a wave of menopausal hot flashes. It has everything to do with health enemy number ONE, inflammation, which should be dealt with as soon as possible and where better to start than in the pantry.
A Surely Fellow, are You?
An acidic body is a sick body, causing various health problems to all systems. All we need to do is find the lemon and bicarbonate of soda from the pantry, for starters.
My Own “how to” Health Make Over Routine:
For health, I incorporate the following with a healthy low-GI diet of good proteins, lots of fresh veggies, fruits, nuts and seeds, healthy oils and safe exercise routine:
First thing in the morning: Warm ginger water with lemon.
Mid-morning: A bit of Kefir mixed in yoghurt with grounded flax seeds and frozen mixed berries. A teaspoon of my mixed dry spice concoction (cayenne, turmeric, cumin, black pepper) in a little water with lemon juice.
During the day: Various glasses of pure water, flavoured water (mint leaves, cucumber and lemon slices) and green tea (sometimes with a bit of ginger and lemon) and some bicarbonate of soda in a little water.
After lunch: ½ teaspoon of cayenne in lemon water.
Mid-afternoon: Same as mid-morning.
After work: Foot spa (warm water with Epson salt which is essential magnesium absorbed through the skin, sea salt, bicarbonate of soda, chamomile and lavender essential oils). This very mix will make a wonderful relaxing detoxification bath (don’t forget the candles, soft music, hair- and face mask).
After dinner: Again the cayenne pepper.
Before sleep time: Golden milk which is of gold standard (coconut oil, turmeric, black pepper, fresh ginger, cinnamon, honey and milk / coconut milk).
Every now and then I would drink a parsley tea for a kidney cleanse.
“How to” Home Beauty Routine:
Yet again, it’s back to the pantry where you’ll find all you need to make the best hydrating, anti-aging and clearing face masks (avocado, cucumber, honey, mayonnaise, coconut and olive oil, yoghurt, oats) cellulite treatments (sea salt, Epson salts, coffee, cayenne, essential oils) and hair, hand, foot and nail treatments (warm coconut and olive oil, etc, etc…).
With our health and beauty makeover sorted in time (why not throw in a few guided health and weight loss meditations for listening on a daily basis, just for additional brain training), we can concentrate on spring cleaning the house. So enjoy your pre-spring health and beauty makeover and happy researching!
